Photo London Award 2016

June 01, 2016

I was absolutely honoured to be commissioned for the second year in a row to create the Photo London Master of Photography award for the incredible Don McCullin.

McCullin’s iconic work is bold and often bleak. To reflect the essence of his photography, I chose to use a beautiful piece of American Oak with strong medullary rays and a combination of black wood dye with Indian ink. The grain is visible, yet as dark as charcoal.

The iconic Photo London logo is still present in the design, but I have abstracted it more this year, using the P as an imprint on the surface. Using copper sheet that slices through the imprint, I was also keen to explore the use of negative space as an elegant form.

Sculpture is a practice that I have always loved, and it is a constant source of inspiration in my jewellery. To be able to produce something personally for an artist as iconic as Don McCullin has been a true privilege.
